WAP11 Overview

Set your network free! The Wireless Access Point from Linksys connects wireless computers to your wired network, so you can add PCs to the network with no cabling hassle. Create a ""wireless bubble"" in that hard-to-wire office space, and save the time, hassle, and expense of running cables. Plus, notebook PCs can travel around your home or office and stay connected wherever they go.

You can also use the Wireless Access Point as a kind of ""cable-less cable"" to connect remote areas together. Maybe Shipping is all the way across the warehouse from Receiving. Or maybe you want to set up a home office in your detached garage. With a Wireless Access Point in the garage, and another one (or the Linksys Wireless Ethernet Bridge) in the house, you're connected – with no cable to run.

For even more versatility, the Wireless Access Point can act as a Repeater. If you're already using one WAP11, you can extend your wireless network's range by installing a second one that ""bounces"" received data further down the line. The repeating Access Point can be installed nearly anywhere, because it works entirely by radio -- no data cable is necessary.

Whichever mode you use, the dual antenna configuration provides ""antenna diversity"", for exceptional signal sensitivity and increased usable range. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless Access Point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC Address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network. Configuration is a snap with web browser-based configuration.

The Linksys Wireless Access Point is the simple, versatile way to add wireless capabilities to your network.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum data transfer rate supported by the Linksys WAP11 Access Point? +
The Linksys WAP11 supports the 802.11b wireless standard, providing a maximum data transfer rate of up to 11 Mbps. It is designed for legacy network environments that require connectivity for older wireless devices operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency band.
How do I connect the Linksys WAP11 to my existing wired network infrastructure? +
The WAP11 features a single 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet port. You can connect it directly to your existing network switch or router using a standard Cat5 cable, allowing your wireless clients to gain access to your wired local area network resources seamlessly.
Does the Linksys WAP11 support wireless bridging or repeater modes? +
Yes, this access point includes features that allow it to be configured for wireless bridging or as a repeater. This functionality is particularly useful for extending the range of your wireless network in scenarios where running additional Ethernet cabling to every location is not physically practical or cost-effective.
What kind of security protocols are available on the Linksys WAP11? +
The WAP11 supports WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption. Because this is a legacy device, it is recommended for use in controlled, internal environments or as part of a segmented network where additional security measures are implemented at the gateway or firewall level to protect wireless traffic.
Is the Linksys WAP11 suitable for high-density modern office environments? +
Due to its reliance on the 802.11b standard, the WAP11 is not designed for high-density, high-bandwidth modern environments. It is best utilized for specific legacy applications, industrial controllers, or older point-of-sale systems that require basic 2.4 GHz connectivity and cannot be easily migrated to modern Wi-Fi 6 or 6E standards.
How is the Linksys WAP11 powered? +
The device is powered using an external power adapter that connects to the DC input port on the unit. It does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE), so you must ensure there is a standard electrical outlet accessible near the planned mounting location for the access point.
Can I manage the Linksys WAP11 through a web-based interface? +
Yes, this access point is managed via a browser-based configuration utility. By accessing the unit's assigned IP address through your web browser, you can configure network settings, wireless channels, SSID information, and security parameters to align with your specific deployment requirements.
What are the physical mounting options for the WAP11? +
The compact design of the WAP11 allows for flexible desktop placement or wall mounting. Its lightweight chassis and integrated antenna configuration make it easy to position in various indoor environments where basic wireless signal coverage is required for low-bandwidth legacy network clients.
Does BuyRouterSwitch.com offer volume pricing for bulk orders of legacy networking hardware? +
We provide competitive pricing structures for organizations looking to procure multiple units of specific hardware. If you are planning a large-scale project or require bulk quantities of the Linksys WAP11, please contact our sales team to discuss volume discounts and to ensure your procurement needs are met efficiently.
