Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary performance capabilities of the QLogic SANbox 5600? +
The QLogic SANbox 5600 is designed for high-performance storage networking, offering 12 ports of 4Gbps Fibre Channel connectivity. It utilizes non-blocking architecture to ensure line-rate performance, making it an ideal solution for businesses looking to accelerate data throughput and reduce latency in demanding storage area network environments.
How does the stackable architecture of the SANbox 5600 benefit network expansion? +
The SANbox 5600 features stackable technology that allows you to manage multiple switches as a single logical unit. This simplifies deployment and scalability, enabling administrators to grow their storage fabric incrementally without the complexity of managing individual switch instances or multiple IP addresses as the network environment expands.
Is the QLogic SANbox 5600 compatible with existing 1Gbps or 2Gbps Fibre Channel infrastructure? +
Yes, the QLogic SANbox 5600 supports auto-negotiation, allowing it to seamlessly integrate into environments using 1Gbps, 2Gbps, or 4Gbps Fibre Channel devices. This backward compatibility ensures that you can protect your existing hardware investments while upgrading your network core to higher speeds.
What type of management interface does this managed switch provide? +
This managed switch offers a comprehensive set of management tools, including a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line interface (CLI) options. These features provide granular control over port configuration, fabric monitoring, and diagnostic reporting, allowing network administrators to maintain optimal switch health and connectivity status across the entire storage network.
In what deployment scenarios is the SANbox 5600 most effective? +
The SANbox 5600 is best suited for small to medium-sized enterprise storage area networks that require high-speed connectivity and port flexibility. Its stackable nature makes it an excellent choice for departmental SANs, server virtualization clusters, or as an edge switch connecting storage arrays to primary backbone fabrics.
How does the SANbox 5600 ensure high reliability for mission-critical data? +
Reliability is built into the 5600 through robust hardware components and redundant fabric capabilities when stacked. By minimizing single points of failure and providing advanced error detection and isolation, this switch helps maintain constant data availability, ensuring your storage traffic remains stable during intensive read/write cycles.
Does the QLogic SANbox 5600 require complex licensing to enable full functionality? +
The SANbox 5600 is designed for straightforward operation. While specific advanced features are managed through the system software, the core functionality is built-in to support high-performance Fibre Channel switching out of the box. Please consult the documentation for specific feature-set activation if you require advanced fabric services or specific inter-switch link features.
What cabling is recommended for the 4Gbps ports on the SANbox 5600? +
For optimal performance, the 4Gbps ports require standard Fibre Channel-compliant optical transceivers and multi-mode fiber optic cabling (such as OM2 or OM3). Using high-quality, verified cabling is essential for maintaining signal integrity and reaching the maximum throughput speeds required for demanding storage networking applications across your data center.
