RDH4505B Overview

PTP 820 is a point-to-point licensed microwave backhaul platform that integrates leading
networking functionality with the industry’s most advanced microwave technologies creating
a superior microwave transport solution.

Supporting licensed frequency bands ranging from 6 to 42 GHz, the PTP 820 series delivers
a wide range of configurations to offer a tailored solution for any deployment scenario.
Composed of high-density multi-technology nodes and integrated radio units, the PTP 820
series offers flexibility in choosing all-indoor, split-mount and all-outdoor configuration options.
Exploiting unique Line of Sight (LOS) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology,
modulation up to 2048QAM and wider channel bandwidths, ensures Industry leading throughput and spectral efficiency.

The PTP 820C has dual-core functionality enabling the system to operate up to 2 Gbps via
software upgrades, eliminating the need for future forklift upgrades, or major system overhaul by the network operator to deliver gigabit-plus capacity.

The series also offers both Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEEv2 synchronization protocols required for large ISP and MPLS networks.

Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OA&M) tools coupled with a full suite of
network and element management systems (NMS and EMS) simplify network provisioning and monitoring, reducing operators’ total cost of ownership and enabling them to meet the most stringent service level agreements.

Combining technologies, equipment and services, PTP 820 enables network operators to meet accelerating demand for capacity cost-effectively under rapidly evolving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary operational frequency range for the Cambium Networks RDH4505B antenna? +
The RDH4505B is a high-performance parabolic dish antenna engineered to support frequency bands common in carrier-grade point-to-point wireless deployments. Its design is optimized for narrow beamwidths and high gain, ensuring minimal signal interference and stable long-range connectivity in demanding outdoor environments. Please verify your specific radio hardware’s frequency alignment to ensure compatibility with this antenna's operating specifications.
How does the 35.4 dBi gain rating influence long-distance wireless link performance? +
A 35.4 dBi gain indicates a highly directional signal focus, which is critical for extending the reach of wireless backhaul links. By concentrating RF energy into a tight beam, this antenna significantly increases the effective range and signal-to-noise ratio over long distances. This makes it an ideal choice for high-capacity, point-to-point bridges where maintaining signal integrity over many kilometers is required.
What type of RF connector does the RDH4505B utilize for integration? +
The RDH4505B features standard N-type female connectors. This industry-standard interface ensures robust, weather-resistant connections when paired with compatible low-loss coaxial jumper cables. Using professional-grade, correctly terminated N-type cables is essential to prevent signal loss at the connection point and to maintain the high performance levels expected from this high-gain parabolic antenna system.
Is the RDH4505B suitable for high-wind or harsh environmental deployments? +
Constructed by Cambium Networks for rugged outdoor service, this parabolic antenna is built to withstand challenging meteorological conditions. Its structural design minimizes wind loading while maintaining precise alignment. For installations in high-wind regions, ensure that the mounting hardware is securely fastened to a stable, industrial-grade tower or mast to preserve link stability and prevent beam misalignment during gusts.
Can the RDH4505B be used for point-to-multipoint network architectures? +
This antenna is purpose-built for point-to-point (PTP) backhaul applications due to its high-gain, narrow-beam parabolic design. It is not intended for point-to-multipoint coverage, which typically requires sectoral antennas with wider horizontal beamwidths. For optimal results, deploy this unit as part of a dedicated, high-capacity link between two specific locations requiring maximum throughput and minimal interference.
What mounting considerations should be prioritized for this parabolic antenna? +
Successful deployment requires a rigid mounting structure capable of supporting the antenna's weight and wind profile. Precision in the azimuth and elevation alignment is paramount given the high gain and narrow beamwidth of the RDH4505B. We recommend using a sturdy, non-vibrating mast and professional alignment tools to ensure the antenna is perfectly centered on the remote node for maximum signal strength.
Does the RDH4505B require any specific software configuration upon installation? +
As a passive antenna component, the RDH4505B does not require internal software or firmware updates. However, once connected to your Cambium radio, you must update the radio's configuration settings to reflect the correct antenna gain value. This step is vital for ensuring the radio's transmit power remains within local regulatory limits and for accurate path-loss calculations within the management software.
How should I calculate the path budget when utilizing the RDH4505B? +
When planning your link, subtract the cable attenuation and account for free-space path loss before adding the 35.4 dBi gain of the antenna. Because of the high directional gain, even minor mechanical shifts can impact your link budget. Always use high-quality, shielded cables to minimize insertion loss, which allows you to fully utilize the high-gain capabilities of this parabolic system.
