POE-152 Overview

PLANET POE-152 is an IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet Injector, which provides DC 48V over Ethernet cables. The POE-152 IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet Injector inserts DC voltage into Cat.5 cable, allowing the cable between the Injector (POE-152) and Splitter (POE-152S-5V/12V) to transfer data and power simultaneously. The maximum distance between the Injector (POE-152) and Splitter (POE-152S-5V/12V) is 100 meters. With POE-152 being installed, it combines the Ethernet digital data with power over the twisted pair cables as an IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet Injector. And the IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet splitter divides the digital data and the power into two outputs.

Unlike the existing Power over Ethernet Injector, the POE-152 also provides 1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet connection capability, except the 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet connection capability.

With IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet devices installed, the system administrator only has to use a single RJ-45 Ethernet cable to carry both power and data to each device. Besides, to connect through the POE-152 and POE-152S-5V/12V, you can also have the benefits of cost saving, ease of networking planning and higher reliability. Upon any IEEE 802.3af devices being installed, the POE-152 or together with POE-152S-5V/12V can make the connection while migrating or splitting the power and the Ethernet digital packets, such as connecting the POE-152 to an IEEE 802.3af complied device, AP or IP phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Cablenet PLANET POE-152 handle power delivery for network devices? +
The POE-152 functions as a single-port PoE injector, bridging the gap between non-PoE switches and powered devices. It converts standard AC power into low-voltage DC, which is then delivered over the existing Ethernet cable alongside data. This enables you to deploy network equipment like wireless access points or IP cameras in locations where traditional electrical outlets are unavailable or difficult to reach.
Is the PLANET POE-152 compatible with standard Gigabit network infrastructures? +
Yes, this unit is fully compliant with 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet standards. It ensures that your data throughput remains at Gigabit speeds without bottlenecking, even when simultaneously powering your connected peripheral devices. It is an ideal solution for upgrading legacy network segments to support modern, power-hungry hardware while maintaining full high-speed data transmission capabilities.
What is the primary deployment scenario for the POE-152 injector? +
This injector is perfectly suited for installations requiring flexible device placement. It is most commonly deployed in enterprise offices or industrial settings to power PoE-capable devices like VoIP phones, security cameras, or thin clients. By centralizing the power source at the cabling closet, administrators can easily manage power cycles and maintenance for remote devices without accessing the individual installation sites.
Does the Cablenet POE-152 require specific software configuration or management? +
The device operates as a plug-and-play hardware solution, meaning it requires zero configuration or software management. Once connected to a power source and your network switch, it automatically detects the power requirements of the connected device. This autonomous design significantly simplifies deployment and reduces the time required for network technicians to integrate new hardware into the existing infrastructure.
Can I use the POE-152 with devices that do not support PoE? +
The unit features an auto-detection mechanism designed to identify PoE-compatible devices before applying power. If you connect a device that does not support Power over Ethernet, the injector will not send power to the device, preventing potential damage to your non-PoE hardware. This safety feature makes it a versatile tool for environments that mix legacy equipment with newer, PoE-enabled technology.
What kind of port configuration does this PoE injector offer? +
The POE-152 provides two RJ-45 interfaces: a 'Data In' port for connecting to your non-PoE switch, and a 'Data + Power Out' port that connects to the powered device. This straightforward design keeps physical port management simple, ensuring that your data path is clean and that the power injection process does not interfere with signal integrity or network stability.
How does the POE-152 maintain reliability during continuous operation? +
Built for industrial-grade stability, the injector is designed for 24/7 operation. It features robust circuitry that ensures steady power output and consistent data flow even under high network traffic loads. By utilizing high-quality internal components, the unit minimizes the risk of power fluctuations that could cause connected cameras or access points to drop their connection or reboot unexpectedly.
What is the maximum cable distance supported when using the POE-152? +
For optimal performance, the standard distance for data and power transmission is up to 100 meters (approximately 328 feet) over Cat5e or Cat6 twisted-pair cabling. Staying within this industry-standard distance ensures that the PoE signal remains stable and that there is no significant degradation in either power delivery or network latency for the connected end-point.
