N5-X16 Overview

Modular & Flexible
The Mimosa C5x is the industry’s most versatile, integrated radio with four modular twist-on antenna options. The ultra-rugged solution provides extended frequency operation from 4.9–6.4 GHz, with best-in-class noise immunity. Delivering the ultimate in flexibility and cost efficiency, the C5x is the go-to PTP or PTMP solution for 5 GHz deployments.

Integrated Radio with Modular Antenna Options
The C5x’s native 8 dBi gain can be increased to 12, 16, 20, or 25 dBi using Mimosa’s modular N5-X twist-on antennas, offering the ease and simplicity of integrated radios, but with so much more flexibility.

Upgradeable
Ultimate Flexibility
Supporting both PTP and PTMP modes, the entry level C5x can be easily enhanced through feature key upgrades. Out of the box, the C5x can be used as a PTMP client at Ethernet link speeds of 100 Mbps. With the purchase of a single feature key, you can easily increase client speeds up to 500 Mbps. For operation in PTP mode, a feature key purchased for each radio unlocks point-to-point speeds of up to 700 Mbps.

Flexible
Incredible RF Performance
Encased in metal and leveraging custom-designed horn and Cassegrain antennas, the C5x reduces localized noise and provides immunity from interference with breakthrough front-to-back and front-to-side performance. Each antenna in the N5-X family is optimized to isolate noise with incredible sidelobe rejection.

Wideband
Extended Frequency
To escape the noise, the C5x lets you take advantage of both 4.9 GHz public safety applications and licensed frequencies up to 6.4 GHz, where allowed by local regulations. The custom-designed N5-X modular antennas are specifically optimized for C5x extended frequency support.

Designed
Ultra Rugged
The C5x, with its die-cast aluminum metal enclosure, dual-pole mounts and industrial-grade, twist-on antenna options, is optimized to reduce noise, withstand the outdoor elements and stay mounted in extreme weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary beamwidth of the Mimosa N5-X16 horn antenna? +
The Mimosa N5-X16 horn antenna features a precise 30-degree symmetrical beamwidth. This design effectively suppresses side lobes and minimizes backscatter, which is critical for maintaining high-performance connectivity in noisy, high-density interference environments where signal isolation is a priority for link stability.
Which Mimosa radio models are compatible with the N5-X16 antenna? +
The N5-X16 is specifically engineered for modular integration with the Mimosa C5x radio. The antenna uses a custom twist-on waveguide connector, ensuring a seamless mechanical and electrical coupling that maintains signal integrity while simplifying the field deployment process for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations.
In what deployment scenarios does the 16 dBi gain of the N5-X16 perform best? +
With a 16 dBi gain, this antenna is optimized for medium-range links. It excels in scenarios where you need to balance coverage area with interference rejection. It is particularly effective for urban or suburban deployments where achieving high signal-to-noise ratios is challenging due to the density of existing wireless infrastructure.
How does the N5-X16 antenna design help mitigate network interference? +
The N5-X16 utilizes a horn-based architecture that provides superior noise immunity compared to standard patch antennas. By focusing the radio energy into a tight, symmetrical beam, the antenna significantly reduces the capture of off-axis interference, allowing for better spectral efficiency and higher modulation rates across your wireless link.
Does the N5-X16 require specific mounting hardware for installation? +
The N5-X16 comes ready for standard pole mounting, designed to work in tandem with the C5x radio's existing bracket ecosystem. The compact, integrated design reduces wind load on towers and makes the installation process efficient, requiring minimal tools to secure both the antenna and the radio head in a single, stable assembly.
Can I use the N5-X16 for long-range point-to-point backhaul links? +
While the N5-X16 is highly effective, it is tailored for medium-range connectivity due to its 16 dBi gain. For extremely long-range backhaul applications, you may consider higher-gain parabolic alternatives. However, for short to medium distances, the N5-X16 provides a cleaner, more reliable connection by focusing energy more effectively than broader-beam antenna designs.
Is the Mimosa N5-X16 suitable for outdoor weather exposure? +
The N5-X16 is constructed with durable, industrial-grade materials specifically built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. Its ruggedized enclosure ensures that the internal waveguide elements remain protected from moisture, wind, and temperature fluctuations, providing consistent performance throughout the year in varied climate zones.
What are the advantages of the symmetrical beam pattern of the N5-X16? +
A symmetrical beam pattern ensures that the signal profile is identical in both the horizontal and vertical planes. This creates a uniform link quality regardless of the orientation, simplifying the alignment process for technicians and resulting in more predictable throughput performance across the entire designated coverage area.
How can I request a bulk quote for multiple Mimosa N5-X16 units? +
