N230082D024A Overview

PTP 820 is a point-to-point licensed microwave backhaul platform that integrates leading
networking functionality with the industry’s most advanced microwave technologies creating
a superior microwave transport solution.

Supporting licensed frequency bands ranging from 6 to 42 GHz, the PTP 820 series delivers
a wide range of configurations to offer a tailored solution for any deployment scenario.
Composed of high-density multi-technology nodes and integrated radio units, the PTP 820
series offers flexibility in choosing all-indoor, split-mount and all-outdoor configuration options.
Exploiting unique Line of Sight (LOS) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology,
modulation up to 2048QAM and wider channel bandwidths, ensures Industry leading throughput and spectral efficiency.

The PTP 820C has dual-core functionality enabling the system to operate up to 2 Gbps via
software upgrades, eliminating the need for future forklift upgrades, or major system overhaul by the network operator to deliver gigabit-plus capacity.

The series also offers both Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEEv2 synchronization protocols required for large ISP and MPLS networks.

Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OA&M) tools coupled with a full suite of
network and element management systems (NMS and EMS) simplify network provisioning and monitoring, reducing operators’ total cost of ownership and enabling them to meet the most stringent service level agreements.

Combining technologies, equipment and services, PTP 820 enables network operators to meet accelerating demand for capacity cost-effectively under rapidly evolving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary purpose of the Cambium Networks PTP 820 antenna? +
The PTP 820 antenna is designed specifically to support high-capacity, point-to-point microwave backhaul deployments. It serves as a critical component for establishing robust, long-distance wireless connectivity, ensuring stable signal transmission and reception for enterprise-grade network infrastructure in both licensed and unlicensed frequency bands.
Is this antenna compatible with all PTP 820 series radios? +
This antenna is engineered for seamless mechanical and electrical integration with the Cambium PTP 820 platform. While it optimizes performance across the series, users should verify their specific radio model and frequency requirements to ensure the antenna gain and physical mounting interfaces align with their existing site hardware specifications.
Does the PTP 820 antenna support dual-polarization configurations? +
Yes, this antenna is designed to facilitate high-throughput scenarios often required in modern backhaul networks. It supports dual-polarization setups, allowing operators to maximize spectral efficiency and achieve higher data rates over the microwave link. This is essential for meeting the bandwidth demands of today’s dense data environments.
How does the environmental durability of this antenna compare to standard models? +
Built for carrier-grade reliability, the PTP 820 antenna is constructed to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Its ruggedized design ensures structural integrity against high winds, precipitation, and extreme temperature fluctuations. This durability minimizes the need for frequent site maintenance and helps maintain a consistent signal path in challenging outdoor deployments.
What is the recommended mounting approach for the Cambium PTP 820 antenna? +
Installation requires a secure mounting structure capable of supporting the antenna's weight and wind-load specifications. Proper alignment is critical for microwave link performance; therefore, we recommend using precision mounting kits that allow for fine-tuned azimuth and elevation adjustments during the commissioning process to ensure optimal boresight alignment.
How do I determine if this antenna meets my required signal gain for a long-range link? +
Selecting the correct gain depends on your specific path length, frequency band, and regulatory transmit power limits. You should use Cambium’s link planning software to calculate the fade margin and predicted path performance. This antenna offers the specialized beamwidth and gain characteristics necessary for maintaining link stability over complex, long-distance microwave terrains.
Are there specific licensing requirements for deploying this antenna? +
While the antenna itself is a passive physical component, the microwave radio equipment it connects to typically operates on licensed or unlicensed frequencies. Always ensure that your deployment adheres to local regulatory standards regarding transmit power and channel usage. Licensing requirements are tied to your specific radio link implementation rather than the antenna hardware.
What is the best way to maintain signal integrity during extreme weather? +
To preserve performance during severe conditions, ensure the radome is correctly attached and that all RF connections are properly weatherized with appropriate sealant tape. Regular physical inspections of the mounting hardware and cable connections will prevent signal degradation caused by mechanical shifts or moisture ingress over long-term operation.
How can I obtain a bulk quote for multiple Cambium PTP 820 antenna units? +
