N110082D072A Overview

PTP 820 is a point-to-point licensed microwave backhaul platform that integrates leading
networking functionality with the industry’s most advanced microwave technologies creating
a superior microwave transport solution.

Supporting licensed frequency bands ranging from 6 to 42 GHz, the PTP 820 series delivers
a wide range of configurations to offer a tailored solution for any deployment scenario.
Composed of high-density multi-technology nodes and integrated radio units, the PTP 820
series offers flexibility in choosing all-indoor, split-mount and all-outdoor configuration options.
Exploiting unique Line of Sight (LOS) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology,
modulation up to 2048QAM and wider channel bandwidths, ensures Industry leading throughput and spectral efficiency.

The PTP 820C has dual-core functionality enabling the system to operate up to 2 Gbps via
software upgrades, eliminating the need for future forklift upgrades, or major system overhaul by the network operator to deliver gigabit-plus capacity.

The series also offers both Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEEv2 synchronization protocols required for large ISP and MPLS networks.

Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OA&M) tools coupled with a full suite of
network and element management systems (NMS and EMS) simplify network provisioning and monitoring, reducing operators’ total cost of ownership and enabling them to meet the most stringent service level agreements.

Combining technologies, equipment and services, PTP 820 enables network operators to meet accelerating demand for capacity cost-effectively under rapidly evolving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cambium Networks PTP 820 antenna compatible with all PTP 820 series radios? +
The PTP 820 antenna is engineered specifically for the Cambium Networks PTP 820 platform. It ensures seamless mechanical and electrical integration with the PTP 820S, 820C, and 820G radio units. Before installation, confirm your specific radio frequency band and mounting requirements to ensure the antenna aligns with your exact hardware configuration for optimal point-to-point microwave performance.
What is the primary deployment scenario for the PTP 820 antenna? +
This antenna is designed for high-capacity, long-haul backhaul applications in licensed microwave bands. It is ideal for service providers, utilities, and enterprise networks that require robust, reliable data transmission over difficult terrains or across long distances. Its rugged design ensures it maintains precise alignment and consistent signal integrity in challenging outdoor environmental conditions.
Does this antenna support high-density microwave radio configurations? +
Yes, this antenna is optimized to support high-density configurations, including multi-carrier and multi-band deployments common in PTP 820 setups. It is built to maintain stable gain and low return loss even when operating in congested RF environments, making it a critical component for high-throughput wireless networks requiring maximum availability and spectral efficiency.
How does the construction of the PTP 820 antenna contribute to long-term reliability? +
The antenna is manufactured using high-grade, weather-resistant materials designed to withstand severe weather, including high winds and heavy precipitation. By utilizing precision-engineered mounts and a durable radome, it minimizes mechanical vibration and protects the internal components from environmental degradation, ensuring that your microwave link remains stable and operational over an extended service life.
Are specific mounting brackets included with the PTP 820 antenna? +
Typically, these antennas are supplied with heavy-duty mounting hardware designed for precise alignment on standard telecommunication towers. Because precise beam alignment is critical for microwave backhaul, the mounting system allows for fine-tuned azimuth and elevation adjustments. We recommend verifying the specific included hardware contents against your site’s mounting pipe diameter requirements prior to the scheduled deployment.
What performance metrics should I expect when pairing this with a PTP 820 radio? +
When paired correctly, this antenna provides high gain and superior side-lobe suppression, which are essential for achieving the modulation levels required for high-capacity throughput. The performance metrics rely on precise link planning, including calculating clear line-of-sight and accounting for the specific frequency band of operation to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio at the radio interface.
How do I manage the integration of the PTP 820 antenna into an existing microwave link? +
Integration is managed through the PTP 820 radio’s management interface. Once the physical alignment is locked in, the radio software will report RSSI and link quality metrics. You can use these real-time diagnostics to perform minor physical adjustments, ensuring that the antenna is perfectly oriented toward the remote terminal for the best possible link budget.
Is frequency planning required for the Cambium PTP 820 antenna? +
Frequency planning is essential for any high-performance microwave deployment. You must ensure the antenna model purchased matches the frequency band of your PTP 820 radio units. Proper channel planning avoids interference with existing networks and ensures that the antenna gain characteristics are fully optimized for your chosen frequency spectrum, which is vital for maintaining high-order modulation stability.
