JW242A Overview

Ultra-fast 220-series 802.11ac APs offer the highest performance in high-density environments and can be managed by a Mobility Controller or deployed in controllerless Aruba Instant mode.

Operating at 1.3 Gbps in the 5-GHz band and 600 Mbps in the 2.4-GHz band, these three-stream APs are up to three-times faster than 802.11n APs.

The AP-225 and IAP-225 have six integrated omni-directional downtilt antennas, while the AP-224 and IAP-224 feature three RP-SMA connectors for external dual-band antennas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary performance capabilities of the Aruba IAP-225 (JW242A)? +
The Aruba IAP-225 is a high-performance 802.11ac indoor access point designed for dense environments. It features dual-radio support with 3x3 MIMO technology, enabling aggregate throughput of up to 1.75 Gbps. This makes it an ideal solution for offices and schools that require consistent, high-speed wireless connectivity for a large number of concurrent users.
Does the Aruba IAP-225 require a physical hardware controller for deployment? +
The IAP-225 features Aruba Instant technology, which allows the access point to function without a physical hardware controller. One AP automatically assumes the role of the virtual controller, managing the configuration and radio settings for the entire cluster. This simplifies deployment for branch offices or smaller enterprise networks where dedicated controller hardware is not necessary.
What type of mounting hardware is included with the JW242A unit? +
The Aruba IAP-225 typically ships with two mounting brackets for attachment to a 9/16-inch or 15/16-inch T-bar drop-tile ceiling. These integrated mounting options allow for a clean, professional installation in standard commercial office spaces. If you need specialized wall-mount or plenum-rated installation kits, please ensure these are sourced separately to meet your specific site requirements.
How are the two Gigabit Ethernet ports utilized on the Aruba IAP-225? +
The two 10/100/1000BASE-T ports provide flexible connectivity options. The primary port supports PoE (802.3af/at), which powers the device through your network switch. The secondary port can be utilized for bridging or to provide redundant connectivity if needed. This dual-port configuration enhances network resiliency and allows for specialized cabling deployments within your local area network.
What is the specific radio frequency configuration of the IAP-225? +
This model features two radios: one dedicated to 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz operations. By supporting dual-band connectivity, the IAP-225 effectively offloads traffic from the crowded 2.4 GHz spectrum to the 5 GHz band, which is standard for modern enterprise-grade wireless deployments requiring higher performance and reduced interference.
Can the Aruba IAP-225 be managed through a centralized cloud platform? +
Yes, the Aruba IAP-225 is compatible with Aruba Central, which provides a cloud-based management interface. This enables network administrators to oversee, monitor, and configure their wireless infrastructure from a single dashboard. This is particularly advantageous for managing multiple sites or large-scale deployments without needing to access individual access points locally.
Is the Aruba IAP-225 suitable for high-density environments like conference rooms? +
Absolutely. Designed with ClientMatch technology, the IAP-225 is engineered to handle dense user scenarios by continuously gathering session performance metrics. It steers mobile devices to the best available radio and access point in the network, ensuring that users in high-traffic areas maintain stable connections without degrading the overall wireless experience.
What are the power requirements for powering the JW242A via PoE? +
The IAP-225 is compatible with IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE+) and is backward compatible with 802.3af PoE. When using 802.3af, the access point may operate with reduced functionality on its auxiliary features. For maximum performance and full radio output, using an 802.3at-compliant switch or power injector is recommended.
