JG963ABNDL Overview

The HPE 1950 Switch Series is a family of smart web-managed Gigabit switches with 10GbE uplinks for small business customers needing advanced high-performance connections. The series has 2 standard and 2 PoE+ models, 24- and 48-GbE ports, each with 2 10GBASE-T and 2 10G SFP+ high-bandwidth ports.

True stacking of as many as 4 devices allows them to be logically administered as a single entity. The switches support Layer 3 static routing on IPv4 and IPv6.

Other advanced features include ACLs, 802.1X, STP, RSTP, and MSTP. Limited lifetime warranty covers unit, fans and power supplies.

Features

High-level Gigabit with 10GbE Networking for Advanced Small Businesses.
- Each model of the HPE 1950 Switch Series includes four 10GbE connections to connect to servers, network storage devices, or to other switches.
- Two connections of 10GBASE-T deliver 10GbE over copper Category 6a cabling for simple, affordable, high-bandwidth connections to a maximum distance of 100 meters.
- Two SFP+ ports allow for fiber connectivity at various distances, at 1/10GbE speeds, using optional SFP+ 10GbE or SFP Gigabit transceivers.
- Aggregate 10GbE connections for even higher bandwidth using Link Aggregation Control Protocol.

Simplified Network Administration
- Logically group or "stack" as many as four units of the HPE 1950 Switch Series and manage this as a single entity, greatly simplifying network administration. Interconnect stacked units using 10GbE connections, with as much as 40GbE total stacking bandwidth connecting the units.
- Use the intuitive web-browser based interface to configure and administer these smart-managed devices.
- These devices support SNMP versions 1, 2c and 3, allowing administration of these devices from a remote SNMP-based management platform.
- Network Time Protocol facilitates timekeeping across your network so time-based actions and trouble-shooting logs are kept synchronized.
- Units will automatically retrieve an IP Address from a DHCP server, allowing for near plug-and-play deployments.

Robust Security to Protect Your Network
- The HPE 1950 Switch Series lets you use Virtual LANs and access control lists to set bounds on what data can be seen by which users.
- Leverage 802.1X with a RADIUS server to ensure only known and authorized users can access your network.
- Multiple features guard your network from user or server spoofing and from malicious network-based attacks.
- Help secure management traffic using supported SSL/HTTPS encryption and SNMPv3 capabilities.

Resiliency Features to Keep Your Network Running
- The HPE 1950 Switch Series supports Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol standards for creating hot-standby recovery links.
- Distribute important links across multiple units in a logical stack for added resiliency. Units can even be in different buildings and still be logically stacked.
- Devices support two independent primary and secondary operating system flash images for backup and recovery during unit upgrades.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) models can be paired with an optional Redundant Power System which can maintain power even if the unit's power supply fails, as well as supplement available PoE power up to 780 Watts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary benefit of the Aruba 1950 48G PoE+ switch included in this bundle? +
The Aruba 1950 48G provides high-density Gigabit connectivity with Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+), allowing you to power devices like IP phones, cameras, and wireless access points directly through the Ethernet cable. Its Layer 3 static routing capabilities and 10G SFP+ uplinks make it an ideal core or aggregation switch for small to medium-sized business networks needing advanced management features.
How do the 10G SFP+ and 10GBASE-T ports enhance network performance? +
The dual 10G SFP+ and dual 10GBASE-T ports provide high-speed uplinks that eliminate bottlenecks between the access layer and the core network. These ports ensure that your switch can handle heavy traffic loads from multiple Gigabit clients simultaneously, providing the necessary bandwidth for data-intensive applications and ensuring future-proof connectivity for your server or storage infrastructure.
Can the Aruba Instant On AP15 be managed alongside the 1950 switch? +
The AP15 is designed for the Instant On cloud-based management platform, which simplifies wireless configuration and monitoring. While the 1950 switch features its own web-managed interface, the AP15 provides a seamless, high-performance Wi-Fi experience. This combination allows you to deploy a unified network environment where wireless traffic is efficiently backhauled through the high-capacity PoE+ switch ports.
Is this Aruba bundle suitable for a voice-over-IP deployment? +
Yes, this bundle is excellent for VoIP setups. The 1950 switch supports Voice VLAN technology, which automatically assigns VoIP traffic to a specific VLAN with high priority. Combined with PoE+ capabilities, you can power your IP phones and ensure high-quality, jitter-free voice communications by prioritizing traffic through the managed switch settings.
What deployment scenarios are best for the 1U rackmount form factor? +
The 1U rackmount design is perfect for standard telecommunications closets, server rooms, or wall-mount cabinets. Because it is a managed L3 switch, it is well-suited for businesses that need to segment their network into multiple VLANs for security and traffic control, while the 48-port capacity allows for extensive cabling of workstations across an entire office floor.
Does this managed switch support advanced L3 traffic control features? +
The Aruba 1950 supports static Layer 3 routing, which enables you to route traffic between different VLANs directly on the switch rather than sending it to a separate router. This feature reduces overhead and improves inter-VLAN performance, which is vital for maintaining network efficiency in environments with segmented departments or guest networks.
How does PoE+ improve flexibility for installing the included AP15? +
PoE+ support on the switch eliminates the need to install a dedicated power outlet near the location of your AP15 access point. By delivering both data and power over a single Cat6 cable, you gain the freedom to mount your wireless access point in optimal locations for maximum signal coverage, streamlining your physical installation process.
What is the maximum power budget available for connected PoE devices? +
The 1950 48G PoE+ model offers a substantial power budget designed to support a full complement of PoE and PoE+ devices. While exact wattage depends on your specific model variant, it is engineered to handle high-draw devices like modern wireless access points and HD security cameras, ensuring that all connected equipment remains powered and operational under standard enterprise workloads.
