GSW-2693 Overview

This switch incorporates QoS, Port Mirroring and VLAN features making it one of the most useful switches in its class providing adequate support for networks on a cost-effective scale. The Qos (Quality of Service) provides four internal queues to support four different classifications of traffic. High priority packet streams have now priority over less sensitive traffic at full wire speed.
Port Mirroring helps track network errors or abnormal packet transmission without interrupting the flow of data. It allows traffic to be monitored by a single port that is defined as a mirror captures port.
The VLAN feature offers the benefits of both security and performance. VLAN is used to isolate traffic between different users providing better security. Limiting the broadcast traffic to within the same VLAN broadcast domain also enhances performance.
User authentication for each network access attempt allows for better access control. Port security features allow network managers to limit the number of MAC addresses per port in order to control the number of each station for each port. Static MAC addresses allow only registered machines to connect to the switch. Both these features establish an access mechanism based on user and machine identities as well as give control over the number of access stations.
The comprehensive LED indicators assist network managers in monitoring the switch as well as the traffic flowing through it at one glance at the LED panel located on the front of the switch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary advantage of the 24-port PoE configuration on the LevelOne GSW-2693? +
The GSW-2693 provides 24 Fast Ethernet ports equipped with Power over Ethernet capabilities. This allows you to power devices like IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points directly through the data cable, simplifying your deployment by eliminating the need for separate electrical outlets at each endpoint.
How do the two 1000BaseT/SFP combo ports enhance network uplink capacity? +
The integrated combo ports offer flexible uplink options, allowing you to connect to your network backbone via standard RJ45 copper cabling or high-speed fiber optics using an SFP module. This dual-purpose design ensures seamless integration into various network environments while providing the necessary bandwidth to prevent bottlenecks from the access layer.
Does the GSW-2693 support Layer 2 management and SNMP? +
Yes, this is a fully managed Layer 2 switch that supports SNMP for comprehensive network monitoring. Administrators can use the management interface to configure VLANs, port mirroring, and link aggregation, ensuring better traffic control, improved security, and detailed performance visibility across the entire switched network.
In what specific deployment scenarios is this 24-port PoE switch most effective? +
This switch is ideal for small-to-medium enterprise office environments or surveillance installations. Its combination of PoE for powered peripherals and high-speed fiber uplinks makes it a cost-effective solution for supporting converged networks where voice, data, and security devices require centralized management and reliable power delivery.
What are the benefits of using the combo SFP slots for long-distance connectivity? +
The SFP slots allow you to utilize fiber optic transceivers, which are essential for connecting network closets that exceed the 100-meter limitation of standard copper cabling. By opting for fiber, you gain immunity to electromagnetic interference and can extend your network reach across larger campus or office building layouts effectively.
Is this LevelOne switch suitable for environments requiring VLAN segmentation? +
Absolutely. The GSW-2693 supports robust VLAN functionality, which is critical for segregating network traffic. By partitioning your network, you can isolate sensitive departments or separate VoIP traffic from general data, leading to improved network security and optimized broadcast domain management within your infrastructure.
How does the SNMP capability assist in ongoing network maintenance? +
SNMP integration allows IT administrators to poll the switch for critical status updates, including port usage, error rates, and power consumption statistics. This proactive approach to network management enables faster troubleshooting and helps maintain high availability by alerting your team to potential issues before they cause significant downtime.
Can the LevelOne GSW-2693 handle the power demands of modern IP security cameras? +
Yes, it is designed to deliver consistent PoE power to compliant devices. When planning your installation, ensure that the total power draw of your connected cameras does not exceed the switch's total power budget. It serves as a centralized power hub, reducing the complexity of physical wiring in your security infrastructure.
