GS724TEU Overview

The GS716T and GS724T Smart Gigabit switches are ideal for growing business networks who wish to benefit from network management without the cost and complexity of a managed network.

Gigabit & Fiber Connectivity

The GS716T and GS724T switches are standards based for easy integration of Ethernet (10 Mbps), Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) and Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mpbs) devices. These unmanaged, rackmountable network switches feature 16 or 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports, each capable of powering 2000 Mbps of data throughput in full duplex mode. The GS716T and GS724T also feature two hot-swappable Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) GBIC Slots for optional SFP Modules to provide private bandwidth for PCs, servers, hubs, or a secure, long-distance uplink connection. All 16 or 24 ports provide automatic speed and duplex sensing, plus Auto Uplink™ technology to adjust for straight-through or crossover cables and make the right connection.

Smart Management

NETGEAR's GS716T and GS724T Smart Switches offer network management features for the price of an unmanaged switch. These network management features include: performance monitoring, port configuration, VLAN for traffic control, port trunking for increased bandwidth, and Class of Service (CoS) for traffic prioritisation.

Ease of Use

Shipped ready to use straight out of the box, the GS716T and GS724T deliver switching that's easy to set up and use via an intuitive Web-browser interface. LEDs located on the front panal make switch status easy to observe and troubleshooting easy to accomplish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary networking capabilities of the NETGEAR GS724T managed switch? +
The NETGEAR GS724T is a powerful L2 managed switch designed for growing businesses. It provides essential network management features, including VLAN support for traffic segmentation, QoS for prioritizing latency-sensitive voice and video traffic, and IGMP snooping for efficient multicast stream handling, ensuring reliable connectivity across your local area network.
How many ports does the GS724T provide for end-device connectivity? +
This model features 24 high-speed 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports. These RJ-45 copper ports allow for seamless integration with workstations, servers, and other network peripherals, providing high-bandwidth throughput essential for modern office environments and demanding data-intensive applications.
Can the NETGEAR GS724T be integrated into an existing managed fiber network? +
Yes, the switch includes dedicated SFP ports alongside its copper RJ-45 interfaces. These fiber-ready slots allow for flexible uplink options, enabling you to connect the switch to your backbone or aggregate traffic over longer distances using the appropriate SFP modules for your fiber infrastructure.
Does the GS724T support advanced traffic prioritization for VoIP deployments? +
Absolutely. This switch includes comprehensive Quality of Service (QoS) functionality. By utilizing 802.1p tagging and DSCP-based prioritization, you can ensure that your voice and video traffic packets are processed ahead of standard data traffic, which effectively minimizes jitter and prevents latency drops during critical communications.
What are the recommended deployment scenarios for this managed switch? +
The GS724T is ideal for small to medium-sized business (SMB) deployments where network visibility and control are required without the complexity of enterprise-level hardware. It works exceptionally well in office environments needing to secure guest traffic through VLANs or improve network uptime through advanced link aggregation features.
Is the management interface of the GS724T user-friendly for non-dedicated IT staff? +
NETGEAR engineered this managed switch with an intuitive web-based graphical user interface (GUI). This interface simplifies the process of configuring port settings, monitoring network traffic statistics, and troubleshooting connectivity issues, allowing administrators to maintain network performance without requiring deep command-line expertise.
How does the GS724T enhance network security at the edge? +
Security is bolstered through several layers, including MAC-based port security and Access Control Lists (ACLs). These features allow you to strictly control which devices can access your network, effectively preventing unauthorized hardware from connecting to your sensitive internal systems while providing robust protection against potential network intrusions.
Does this switch support energy-efficient Ethernet standards? +
Yes, the GS724T incorporates IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standards. This allows the switch to automatically decrease power consumption on ports that are idle or connected to inactive devices, providing a smart, eco-friendly way to reduce operational costs and heat generation within your server room or network closet.
