EXSW-1600-50 Overview

The EXSW-1600 is a central component of Extricom’s award-winning WLAN System, and the key building block for a new generation of business-class wireless that scales to any size, from a single office to a multi-building corporate campus.
The EXSW-1600 supports GbE connectivity for up to 16 EXRP-30n or EXRP-40En 802.11n APs. It allows for an up to 2GbE uplink to the wired network, providing sufficient capacity to accommodate multiple 802.11n and legacy blankets. The EXSW-1600 is the only device in the WLAN deployment that contains software; the plug-and-play APs simply function as radios, with no software, storage capability, MAC or IP address.

- Supports up to 16 Access Points
- Gigabit connectivity
- Support for 802.11n

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary advantage of deploying the Allied Telesis EXSW-1600-50 in a small office environment? +
The EXSW-1600-50 is designed for simplicity and efficiency. As an unmanaged PoE switch, it offers plug-and-play connectivity, eliminating the need for complex configuration. It provides reliable Power over Ethernet capabilities for devices like IP phones, security cameras, and wireless access points, making it an ideal choice for businesses requiring a straightforward, cost-effective networking foundation without the overhead of managed hardware.
How does the Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality work on the EXSW-1600-50? +
This switch utilizes integrated PoE technology to deliver both data and electrical power over a single Ethernet cable to connected peripheral devices. By consolidating power distribution, you reduce the need for localized power outlets at device installation sites. This streamlined approach simplifies cable management and deployment, particularly for ceiling-mounted access points or wall-mounted security cameras that lack nearby traditional power sources.
Is the Allied Telesis EXSW-1600-50 compatible with non-PoE devices? +
Yes, this switch is fully backward compatible with standard Ethernet devices. While it is engineered to provide PoE power to compatible equipment, it will automatically detect the power requirements of the connected device. If a device does not require PoE, the switch will safely provide only data connectivity, allowing you to mix and match PoE-enabled and standard hardware on the same network segment.
What type of mounting options are available for this switch? +
The EXSW-1600-50 is designed as a rackmount switch, making it highly suitable for professional server rooms or localized network closets. Its form factor allows for secure installation into standard 19-inch equipment racks. This mounting capability keeps your networking hardware organized, protected, and easily accessible, ensuring that your cabling infrastructure remains tidy and professional in busy enterprise environments.
Does the EXSW-1600-50 require any software updates or firmware management? +
As an unmanaged switch, the EXSW-1600-50 operates independently of complex software configurations or firmware updates. It is designed to function right out of the box with fixed, high-performance operational logic. This architectural choice minimizes maintenance efforts and eliminates the risks associated with software bugs or security patches, providing a highly stable networking solution that remains consistently operational once installed.
How reliable is the EXSW-1600-50 for high-traffic network segments? +
Allied Telesis has built a reputation for high-quality, durable hardware, and this model is no exception. Its robust construction is designed to withstand continuous operation in demanding environments. By providing consistent, jitter-free performance for data and power transmission, it ensures that your critical business devices remain connected reliably, reducing downtime and maintaining consistent network throughput during peak usage periods.
What specific connectivity port configuration does this switch offer? +
The EXSW-1600-50 provides multiple Ethernet ports specifically engineered to facilitate seamless integration into your existing network infrastructure. These ports support high-speed data transfer rates, ensuring that your connected endpoints—whether they are workstations, servers, or PoE-powered peripherals—receive the bandwidth required for their specific applications. The physical port density is optimized for small-to-medium deployment scenarios where space and performance must be balanced.
Can the Allied Telesis EXSW-1600-50 support energy-efficient operation? +
The switch is designed with operational efficiency in mind, managing power delivery intelligently to connected devices. By only providing the necessary wattage to the powered devices, it optimizes energy consumption across the network. This efficient power management helps reduce operational costs over time while maintaining the high performance and stable connectivity required for professional-grade network infrastructure deployment.
