EDS-305 Overview

5 and 8-port unmanaged Ethernet switches.
The EDS-305/308 are 5-port and 8-port Ethernet switches that provide an economical solution for your industrial Ethernet connections. The built-in relay warning function alerts network engineers when power failures or port breaks occur, and the switches are designed for harsh industrial environments, such as in hazardous locations (Class I, Div. 2/ATEX). The switches comply with FCC, TÜV, UL, and CE standards, and come in two model types. Standard operating temperature range models (0 to 60°C) and wide operating temperature range models (-40 to 75°C). Both models undergo a 100% burn-in test to ensure that they fulfill the special needs of industrial automation control applications. The EDS-305/308 switches can be installed easily on a DIN-Rail or in a distribution box.
- Redundant dual 24 VDC power inputs.
- Relay output warning for power failure and port break alarm.
- Broadcast storm protection.
- Transparent transmission of VLAN tagged packets.
- 40 to 75˚C operating temperature range (T models).

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary port configurations available on the Moxa EDS-305? +
The Moxa EDS-305 is a compact, 5-port industrial unmanaged Ethernet switch. It features five 10/100BaseT(X) RJ45 ports, providing reliable connectivity for standard industrial devices. This configuration makes it an ideal entry-level solution for small-scale automation networks that require robust, plug-and-play Ethernet switching without the complexity of managed software interfaces.
Is the Moxa EDS-305 suitable for harsh industrial environments? +
Yes, this switch is specifically engineered for rugged environments. It features a hardened metal housing and is designed to operate reliably across a wide temperature range. Its industrial-grade construction protects sensitive internal components against physical impact and electromagnetic interference, ensuring stable performance in factory floors, remote field sites, or transportation infrastructures where standard commercial switches would likely fail.
How do I power the Moxa EDS-305 in a control cabinet? +
This device supports dual redundant 12/24/48 VDC power inputs. By connecting two independent power sources to the terminal block, the switch ensures continuous operation if one power supply fails. This redundancy is critical for maintaining uptime in industrial automation systems where losing network connectivity can lead to costly operational disruptions or safety hazards.
Does the Moxa EDS-305 support DIN-rail mounting? +
The switch is designed for seamless installation in industrial control cabinets using standard 35 mm DIN-rail mounting. This mounting method allows for quick, space-saving deployment alongside other industrial hardware. Additionally, its compact physical footprint ensures it can fit into tight spaces where rack-mounted or desktop switches would be impractical or impossible to install securely.
What kind of relay alarm output does the EDS-305 provide? +
The unit includes a built-in relay output for power failure warnings. If a primary power input fails, the switch triggers the alarm, allowing maintenance personnel to be alerted immediately. This simple hardware-based monitoring feature provides basic visibility into the health of your network infrastructure without requiring an expensive or complex managed network management system.
Are there specific configuration settings required for the Moxa EDS-305? +
As an unmanaged switch, the EDS-305 requires zero configuration. It utilizes true plug-and-play functionality, meaning it automatically detects port speeds and duplex modes. Once you connect your Ethernet cables and provide power, the switch begins forwarding data packets immediately. This makes it an excellent choice for rapid deployment in scenarios where network complexity is low and technical overhead must be minimized.
Can I use the Moxa EDS-305 to connect legacy serial-to-Ethernet converters? +
Absolutely. Because the EDS-305 acts as a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch, it is fully compatible with most serial-to-Ethernet converters, PLCs, and HMI panels. By aggregating traffic from multiple edge devices into a single uplink, this switch helps streamline your network topology, providing a stable foundation for communication between legacy serial hardware and modern industrial Ethernet controllers.
How does the Moxa EDS-305 handle high-vibration scenarios? +
The device is built to comply with strict industrial standards regarding shock and vibration resistance. Its internal components are vibration-proofed to prevent loosening during operation, making it suitable for deployment on moving machinery or in environments prone to mechanical tremors. This structural integrity ensures that your data transmission remains stable, avoiding the packet loss or link disconnection often caused by mechanical stress.
