DES-3326 Overview

D-Link's DES-3326 is a high-performance Managed Layer 3 Switch that provides users with twenty-four (24) 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports with support for an optional two port GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter) module for fast connection speeds and flexibility. The DES-3326 establishes a new price/performance point in its product category by blending the latest advancements, ASIC design and manufacturing. The D-Link DES-3326 provides twenty-four (24) 10/100 ports and enables high performance workgroups/departments multi-Gigabit connections to servers and other switches. By supporting standards-based network management protocols, the DES-3326 can be easily integrated into many third-party network management packages such as HP OpenView, CiscoWorks and Optivity. The D-Link DES-3326 can simultaneously forward layer 2 and layer 3 traffic across all ports, optimizing the transport of all of your business critical data. Utilizing an 8.8Gbps switch fabric and support for 8, 000 MAC addresses, the DES-3326 has a fully wire-speed, non-blocking architecture to support all of your next generation applications. Advances in ASIC design and product engineering enable the D-Link DES-3326 to route IP traffic in excess of 6.6Mpps, outperforming more expensive multi-protocol software-based routers in its class.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary management options for the D-Link DES-3226? +
The D-Link DES-3226 provides robust management capabilities, allowing administrators to configure settings via a web-based interface, SNMP, or a command-line interface through a local console port. This flexibility ensures that network teams can monitor traffic, assign VLANs, and manage switch performance effectively within diverse enterprise network environments using standard management protocols.
Does the DES-3226 support expansion modules for higher uplink speeds? +
Yes, this switch features open expansion slots that support optional Gigabit uplink modules. These modules enable the switch to transition from standard 10/100 Mbps connectivity to high-speed Gigabit Ethernet, providing a critical bottleneck solution for uplinks to core switches or high-demand servers in your network infrastructure.
Is the D-Link DES-3226 suitable for Layer 3 routing tasks? +
As a managed Layer 3 switch, the DES-3226 is capable of handling basic routing functions. It is designed to bridge the gap between simple Layer 2 connectivity and complex core routing, making it an ideal choice for workgroup or departmental networks that require efficient traffic segmentation and inter-VLAN routing capabilities.
How many physical ports come standard on the DES-3226 chassis? +
The D-Link DES-3226 comes equipped with 24 fixed 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet ports. These RJ-45 ports provide reliable connectivity for desktop workstations, IP phones, and other edge devices, ensuring consistent network performance across your office floor while maintaining compatibility with standard Cat5 cabling infrastructure.
Can I configure VLANs on the D-Link DES-3226? +
Absolutely. This managed switch supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, which is essential for segmenting broadcast domains and enhancing network security. By isolating departmental traffic, you can improve overall network efficiency and ensure that sensitive data remains restricted to authorized user groups within your organization.
What is the primary use case for the DES-3226 in an enterprise setting? +
The DES-3226 is best utilized as a managed edge or access-layer switch. Its feature set is perfectly balanced for small to medium-sized business deployments where administrators require precise control over port-based traffic, security, and quality of service without the extreme cost overhead of a high-density core switch.
Does this switch support 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS)? +
Yes, the unit supports 802.1p prioritization, which allows for the classification of incoming data packets. This feature is vital for ensuring that time-sensitive traffic, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) or real-time video streaming, receives higher priority during periods of high network congestion, thereby minimizing jitter and latency for end users.
How is the performance of the DES-3226 affected by the optional Gigabit modules? +
Integrating optional Gigabit uplinks significantly increases the throughput capacity of the switch. By moving high-traffic streams to a 1000 Mbps pipe, you prevent the 24 Fast Ethernet ports from oversubscribing the uplink, resulting in smoother data flow and improved overall responsiveness for the entire network segment connected to the switch.
How can I obtain a volume discount for a large-scale project involving the DES-3226? +
