DES-3052P Overview

48-port Layer2 Managed PoE Switch, with 2 Combo 1000Base-T/SFP Ports and 2 1000Base-T Ports
The DES-3052P is part of D-Link’s family of premium devices in the entry-level network management category. With Power over Ethernet (PoE) support, 4 Gigabit uplinks, comprehensive network security, granular bandwidth control and extensive network management, this switch is rich in functions allowing organisations set up secure and effective departmental networks at an affordable cost.

High port density & Power over Ethernet (PoE) support
The DES-3052P provides 48 Ethernet ports and is equipped with 4 Gigabit uplinks, with the SFP supporting both fibre Gigabit and 100Base-FX fibre connection for specific applications.

802.3af PoE is integrated into every switch port. Hence any 802.3af compliant device can be powered by the switch via the standard Ethernet cables, to a maximum of 15.4W per device and 370 W for the switch.

Security, resilience & availability
The DES-3052P includes many security features including Access Control Lists (ACLs), 802.1X Port-Based/MAC-Based Access Control and 802.1X Guest VLAN so that network access is available only to authorised users.

To enhance network resilience, the switch supports Spanning Tree protocols, including 802.1D, 802.1w and 802.1s for redundant bridge paths. In addition, a unique feature, D-Link Safeguard Engine™, allows administrators to configure thresholds that limit the impact of packet flooding to the switch’s CPU typically caused by virus/worm outbreaks. This increases the switch's reliability and availability.

Traffic monitoring/Bandwidth control with high speed links
Network administrators can define throughput levels for each port to manage bandwidth. Fine granularity down to 64 Kbps can be achieved. For Quality of Service (QoS), the switch supports 802.1p Priority Queues and packet classification based on ToS, DSCP, MAC, IP, VLAN ID and protocol type, to ensure that critical network services like VoIP, ERP, Intranet and video conference are prioritised.

The switch also provides IGMP snooping to control multicast transmission and port mirroring to facilitate diagnostics. In addition, 802.3ad Link Aggregation allows high-speed links to be created between switches or to servers.

Management
The DES-3052P supports D-Link’s Single IP Management (SIM), which simplifies and speeds up management tasks by allowing multiple switches to be configured, monitored and maintained from any workstation running a web browser. Up to 32 switch units -regardless of the model- can form this virtual stack, which is managed as a single object identified by a single IP address. Most management and configuration tasks are performed via a simple web-based interface.

Other management protocols include standard-based SNMP, RMON, Telnet, Web GUI, SSH/SSL security authentication and DHCP Relay Option 82. With DHCP autoconfiguration, the administrator can pre-set configurations and save them in a TFTP server. Individual switches can then boot their IP from the server and load in the pre-set configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary power delivery capabilities of the D-Link DES-3052P? +
The DES-3052P is an L2 Managed switch featuring Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality. It is designed to deliver power directly through the Ethernet cables to connected devices such as IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points. This eliminates the need for individual power supplies at each endpoint, simplifying your network cabling infrastructure and overall deployment efficiency.
Does the D-Link DES-3052P support VLANs for network segmentation? +
Yes, as a Layer 2 managed switch, the DES-3052P provides robust support for 802.1Q VLAN tagging. This allows network administrators to segment traffic, improve security, and optimize performance by isolating broadcast domains. It is an ideal solution for businesses looking to categorize traffic effectively across different departments or functional groups within the same physical network hardware.
How many ports are available on the DES-3052P for device connectivity? +
The DES-3052P is a high-density solution equipped with 48 Fast Ethernet ports that provide PoE connectivity for edge devices. Additionally, it features 2 combo 10/100/1000BASE-T/SFP ports, offering the necessary uplink flexibility to connect to high-speed backbone switches or fiber-optic segments. This configuration is perfectly suited for medium-to-large-scale office environments requiring extensive end-device distribution.
Can the D-Link DES-3052P be configured through a web-based interface? +
This switch supports comprehensive management features, including a user-friendly web-based management interface. This enables network administrators to monitor port status, configure security settings, and manage PoE power budgets remotely without needing deep command-line knowledge. For advanced control, it also supports industry-standard SNMP, allowing for seamless integration into broader network management systems.
What is the primary use case for the D-Link DES-3052P in a corporate setting? +
The DES-3052P is ideally suited for enterprise environments that require centralized power management for a high volume of networked devices. It is frequently deployed in offices to support large-scale VoIP telephony and surveillance systems. By providing intelligent L2 management and reliable PoE, it ensures consistent connectivity and power for equipment located at the network edge.
How does the DES-3052P improve network security? +
This switch enhances security through advanced features such as Access Control Lists (ACLs) and Port Security. These tools allow administrators to restrict network access based on MAC addresses or specific protocols, ensuring that only authorized devices can communicate on the network. By enforcing these policies at the access layer, the DES-3052P mitigates the risk of unauthorized entry and internal threats.
Does this switch support link aggregation for increased bandwidth? +
Yes, the DES-3052P supports 802.3ad Link Aggregation, which allows for the bundling of multiple physical ports into a single logical channel. This significantly increases bandwidth between switches and provides essential redundancy. If one link fails, traffic is automatically redistributed across the remaining links in the group, ensuring that critical data paths remain operational.
Is the D-Link DES-3052P suitable for rack-mount environments? +
The DES-3052P is designed for standard 19-inch rack-mount deployment. Its compact chassis allows it to fit seamlessly into telecommunications racks or server cabinets.
