Frequently Asked Questions

What primary connectivity standard does the Tenda D840R support? +
The Tenda D840R is an ADSL-based wired router designed to provide reliable internet connectivity through your telephone line. It serves as an integrated solution for homes and small offices that require a stable ADSL connection converted into standard Ethernet ports for local networking devices.
How many devices can I connect to the Tenda D840R at once? +
This router features a multi-port switch configuration, allowing you to connect several wired devices simultaneously via Fast Ethernet ports. It is ideal for small network setups where you need to distribute a single internet source to computers, printers, or game consoles without the overhead of wireless interference.
Is the Tenda D840R compatible with modern fiber or cable internet? +
The D840R is specifically engineered for ADSL environments. It is not compatible with fiber or cable internet services that utilize a WAN Ethernet or coaxial handoff. If your service provider uses a different delivery technology, this device will not function as an upstream gateway.
What is the maximum data transfer rate of the D840R's Ethernet ports? +
The integrated ports on the Tenda D840R operate at Fast Ethernet speeds, which is 10/100 Mbps. This speed is perfectly adequate for standard web browsing, checking emails, and managing small-scale internal file transfers within a home or office environment.
How do I configure the Tenda D840R for my ISP settings? +
Configuration is handled through a web-based management interface. By entering the default IP address into a browser, you can access the setup wizard to input your ISP's VPI/VCI values and authentication credentials, ensuring a seamless handshake between the router and your broadband line.
Does the Tenda D840R include a built-in firewall for network security? +
Yes, the device features a basic, integrated firewall that helps protect your connected devices from common internet-based threats. It allows for essential packet filtering and provides a foundational layer of security for your local network, keeping your connected hardware shielded from unauthorized external access.
Can the Tenda D840R be used in a bridge mode configuration? +
The device supports various operating modes, including bridging, which allows you to pass the ADSL connection through to another firewall or advanced router. This flexibility makes it a useful component if you wish to manage your network traffic using a more robust or feature-rich downstream device.
What environmental conditions are best for deploying the Tenda D840R? +
To ensure long-term reliability, the Tenda D840R should be placed in a well-ventilated, dry area away from direct heat sources. Maintaining proper airflow around the unit helps prevent thermal throttling and ensures consistent performance during prolonged operation, which is critical for ADSL modems that run continuously.
