CISCOSB107-K9 Overview

Cisco Small Business Series secure broadband routers are fixed-configuration, small-office routers that support up to five users (Figure 1). They provide the required performance to run basic, secure services in small offices, including firewall and support for Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based VPNs (Figure 2). In addition, an easy-to-use configuration tool, Cisco Router and Security Device Manager (SDM), allows nontechnical users to quickly set up the router and its firewall configuration (Figure 3), while remote management capabilities in Cisco IOS Software facilitate easy deployment and centralized management for service providers or value-added resellers

Frequently Asked Questions

What primary connectivity options does the Cisco 107 wired router provide for small business networks? +
The Cisco 107 is designed as a reliable wired broadband router, primarily utilizing Ethernet WAN and LAN ports to facilitate high-speed internet distribution. It is specifically engineered to provide stable, secure connectivity for small office environments that require dedicated wired performance rather than wireless overhead. Its architectural focus is on maintaining consistent uptime for essential business applications through a dedicated hardware platform.
Is the Cisco 107 suitable for high-speed fiber internet deployments? +
Yes, the Cisco 107 is well-suited for high-speed fiber deployments where a stable wired connection is the priority. By connecting your ISP’s fiber modem directly into the router's WAN port, you can effectively manage traffic and enforce security policies across your network. Its robust routing capabilities ensure that you can take full advantage of your bandwidth without the signal degradation often found in consumer-grade wireless equipment.
How does the Cisco 107 enhance network security compared to a standard home router? +
This router features built-in security mechanisms designed to protect business-critical data from external threats. It includes sophisticated firewall capabilities that inspect traffic and block unauthorized access, providing a significant step up from consumer hardware. By implementing these enterprise-grade security controls, your organization can effectively manage network perimeters and protect sensitive digital assets from common intrusion vectors.
Can the Cisco 107 be managed via a centralized command-line interface? +
The Cisco 107 offers management interfaces tailored to the needs of IT professionals who require precise control over network configurations. Whether you prefer a graphical user interface for quick updates or command-line access for granular administrative tasks, the device supports standard protocols that allow for efficient configuration management, firmware updates, and comprehensive monitoring of network performance metrics.
What type of environment is the Cisco 107 best designed for? +
This model is ideal for small businesses, home offices, or branch locations that require consistent, non-wireless connectivity. It excels in environments where reliability is more important than mobility, such as point-of-sale systems, dedicated server uplinks, or wired workstation clusters. Its compact form factor allows for seamless integration into existing network racks or desktop setups without requiring significant cooling or power resources.
Does the Cisco 107 support advanced routing protocols for network scaling? +
The Cisco 107 supports the essential routing protocols required to keep a small business network organized and efficient. It manages traffic flows through standardized routing logic, ensuring that data packets are directed to the correct internal destinations with minimal latency. This makes the device a reliable choice for businesses that need to maintain predictable network behavior as their internal traffic requirements grow over time.
How does the hardware reliability of the Cisco 107 compare to other broadband routers? +
Cisco hardware is engineered for long-term operational stability under load. Unlike consumer routers that may require frequent power cycles, the 107 is built to maintain persistent connections and high throughput over extended periods. This reliability is a direct result of Cisco’s commitment to industrial-grade component quality, ensuring your network remains operational and responsive even during peak business hours.
Does the Cisco 107 require specific licensing to unlock its routing features? +
The Cisco 107 comes equipped with its core feature set ready for deployment out of the box. Unlike many enterprise-tier modular routers that require additional feature licenses to enable specific routing protocols or security functions, this broadband router is designed for straightforward, immediate use. This simplifies the procurement and deployment process, allowing you to establish your network infrastructure without managing complex licensing keys.
