Feature

Benefits

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)

The IEEE 802.11ax emerging standard, also known as High-Efficiency Wireless (HEW) or Wi-Fi 6, builds on 802.11ac. It delivers a better experience in typical environments with more predictable performance for advanced applications such as 4K or 8K video, high-density, high-definition collaboration apps, all-wireless offices, and IoT. Wi-Fi 6 is designed to use both the 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands, unlike the 802.11ac standard.

Uplink/downlink OFDMA

OFDMA-based scheduling splits the bandwidth into smaller frequency allocations called Resource Units (RUs), which can be assigned to individual clients in both the downlink and uplink directions to reduce overhead and latency.

Downlink MU‑MIMO technology

Supporting two spatial streams, MU-MIMO enables access points to split spatial streams between client devices to maximize throughput.

BSS coloring

Spatial reuse (also known as Basic Service Set [BSS] coloring) allows the access points and their clients to differentiate between BSSs, thus permitting more simultaneous transmissions.

Target Wake Time

A new power-saving mode called Target Wake Time (TWT) allows the client to stay asleep and to wake up only at prescheduled (target) times to exchange data with the access point. This offers significant energy savings for battery-operated devices, up to 3x to 4x the savings achieved by 802.11n and 802.11ac.

Intelligent Capture

Intelligent Capture probes the network and provides Cisco DNA Center with deep analysis. The software can track more than 240 anomalies and instantaneously review all packets on demand, emulating the onsite network administrator. Intelligent Capture allows for more informed decisions on your wireless networks.

Bluetooth 5

Integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5 radio enables location-based use cases such as asset tracking, way finding or analytics.

Container support for applications

Container support enables edge computing capabilities for IoT applications on the host access point.

Apple features

Apple and Cisco have partnered to create an optimal mobile experience for iOS devices on corporate networks based on Cisco technologies. Using new features in Apple iOS, in combination with the latest software and hardware from Cisco, businesses can now more effectively use their network infrastructure to deliver an enhanced user experience across all business applications.

At the center of the collaboration is a unique handshake between the Cisco WLAN and Apple devices. This handshake enables the Cisco WLAN to provide an optimal Wi-Fi roaming experience to Apple devices. Additionally, the Cisco WLAN trusts Apple devices and gives priority treatment for business-critical applications specified by the Apple device. This feature is also known as Fast Lane.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the primary performance benefits of the Cisco Catalyst 9105AXW-B's Wi-Fi 6 architecture? +
The C9105AXW-B leverages Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standards to provide higher throughput and improved efficiency in high-density environments. By utilizing 2x2 MIMO with two spatial streams, it effectively manages bandwidth for multiple connected clients simultaneously, reducing latency and significantly boosting network performance compared to previous Wi-Fi generations. This makes it an ideal choice for modern workspaces requiring consistent, high-speed wireless connectivity.
Is the C9105AXW-B suitable for high-density deployment in hotel rooms or dormitory environments? +
Yes, this model is specifically engineered as a wall-plate access point, making it perfect for hospitality, MDUs, and office environments where discrete, room-level coverage is required. Its compact form factor allows for direct installation onto wall junctions, providing localized high-performance Wi-Fi 6 coverage that minimizes signal interference from adjacent rooms while maintaining a clean, professional aesthetic.
Does the C9105AXW-B utilize internal or external antennas for signal distribution? +
This unit is equipped with integrated internal antennas optimized for wall-plate deployments. The internal antenna design ensures a sleek, low-profile footprint that blends into wall environments, eliminating the need for external cabling or protruding hardware. Despite the compact design, the antennas are precisely calibrated to provide robust omnidirectional coverage within the immediate area of the mounted wall location.
What does the 'B' regulatory domain suffix represent for this Catalyst 9105 series unit? +
The 'B' regulatory domain designation indicates that the wireless radio frequencies are configured to comply with the specific legal standards and spectrum requirements of the United States. When deploying this access point, it is critical to ensure that your regional regulatory settings align with the B-domain hardware to maintain operational compliance and optimal performance within your local wireless network infrastructure.
How do the MIMO capabilities of the C9105AXW-B improve user experience? +
With its 2x2 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) configuration, this access point can transmit and receive data over two spatial streams simultaneously. This capability significantly increases the total data capacity of the wireless link, allowing the device to support more clients at higher speeds. It is particularly effective at handling the bursty traffic typical of mobile devices and modern enterprise applications.
What is the recommended management platform for configuring the Catalyst 9105AXW series? +
These access points are designed for centralized management, typically integrated with Cisco Catalyst 9800 series wireless controllers or managed via the Cisco DNA Center. This allows for automated provisioning, streamlined security policy enforcement, and real-time network monitoring. Using these management tools provides granular visibility into client behavior and simplifies the configuration of complex RF management tasks across your entire indoor deployment.
Can the C9105AXW-B-VHBRSN be mounted on standard wall electrical boxes? +
The wall-plate design of the C9105AXW series is tailored for mounting on standard wall electrical junction boxes. This simplifies the deployment process by allowing administrators to utilize existing structured cabling infrastructure already routed through the wall. This form factor significantly reduces installation time and costs, providing a professional and secure mounting solution for indoor enterprise wireless networks.
How does Wi-Fi 6 technology in this access point handle interference compared to older APs? +
Wi-Fi 6 incorporates advanced features like BSS Coloring and improved OFDMA scheduling, which allow the C9105AXW-B to operate more effectively in congested environments. By reducing contention and minimizing the impact of co-channel interference from other nearby access points, this unit maintains more stable connections. This makes it far more reliable in dense office buildings where many other wireless networks may be present.
