852-10084 Overview

The AccessEtherLinX/4 series is a line of Layer-2, VLAN based secure access devices. The products allow service providers to offer differentiated, bandwidth-scalable Ethernet Private Line and Transparent LAN services to business customers and commercial buildings. Residing at the customer's network edge, AccessEtherLinX/4 performs a conversion from fiber to twisted pair LAN and offers a clear demarcation point for the service hand-off.

AccessEtherLinX/4 offers a host of features unique to an Ethernet-based CPE. The compact unit offers remote end management via SNMP, bi-directional bandwidth control, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1p traffic prioritization and IGMP multicast snooping; this device is an ideal solution for delivering Ethernet/IP fiber services to business/MTU customers.

The AccessEtherLinX/4 is available as a 4-port device with an integrated internal power supply. It features three uplink configurations - 100Base-FX multi-mode or single-mode fiber, and 100Base-TX. The AccessEtherLinX/4 fits a wide range of access network applications. By remotely managing the device from a central location, service providers can enable and disable services, perform device configuration and upgrades, and control individual customer bandwidth and traffic priority without costly visits to the customer premises.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What primary networking functions does the B&B Electronics TX/4 + CWDM-SM1550-SC provide? +
This unit functions as a high-performance Managed Layer 2 switch. It is engineered for robust data link layer switching, offering advanced traffic control, VLAN management, and prioritization features essential for maintaining organized and efficient local area networks in demanding enterprise environments.
How does the CWDM-SM1550-SC interface enhance long-distance connectivity? +
The integrated CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) interface utilizing the 1550nm wavelength allows for efficient multiplexing of multiple signals over a single fiber strand. This is ideal for expanding network capacity across metropolitan or campus distances without the need to deploy additional fiber infrastructure.
What level of management control does this managed switch offer? +
As a managed Layer 2 device, it provides administrators with granular control over port settings, bandwidth allocation, and security protocols. Users can monitor network health and configure parameters through a management interface to optimize throughput and ensure consistent performance across all connected network segments.
Is the TX/4 switch suitable for industrial or space-constrained deployments? +
The TX/4 architecture is designed with a compact footprint, making it highly suitable for installations where rack space is at a premium. Its durable construction ensures reliable operation in various enterprise deployment scenarios, from telecommunications closets to remote edge-computing installations that require sustained, high-uptime connectivity.
What is the primary benefit of the Layer 2 architecture in this model? +
The Layer 2 switching architecture focuses on high-speed frame forwarding based on MAC addresses. By processing data at the Data Link layer, this switch minimizes latency and maximizes throughput, making it an excellent choice for connecting end-user devices and segmenting traffic to reduce broadcast domains efficiently.
Does this switch support standard fiber optic connectivity requirements? +
Yes, this model utilizes standard SC connectors, which are widely recognized in the industry for their reliability and ease of insertion. The use of SC ports ensures compatibility with typical single-mode fiber infrastructure commonly found in enterprise data centers and wide-area network backbones.
How does this managed switch improve network security? +
Security is managed through features like VLAN isolation and port-based access control, which prevent unauthorized access to sensitive network segments. By controlling traffic flow at the data link layer, administrators can effectively limit the visibility of critical assets to only those devices or users that require access.
What should I consider regarding power and performance for this B&B Electronics unit? +
To ensure peak performance, verify your site's power requirements align with the switch's specifications. High-performance managed switches require stable power inputs to maintain the integrity of the switching fabric, especially when utilizing the CWDM interface to its full capacity for long-range data transmission.
