4252 Overview

These Layer 2 Ethernet switches are designed for enterprise networks demanding high security and intelligence. They provide 10/100 Mbps downlink and 1000 Mbps uplink Ethernet ports, and serve as access devices for 100 Mpbs-to-desktop applications in enterprise networks. In metropolitan area networks or various industry networks, they connect end users or aggregate client devices with 10/100 Mbps connections, converging at a higher capacity switch with 1000 Mbps interfaces. Features include advanced quality of service (QoS), rate limiting, QinQ (virtual LAN [VLAN]/VPN), SSHv2, Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR), Virtual Cable Test (VCT), HGMP V2, GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP), access control list (ACL), media access control (MAC)-IP-port binding, and Endpoint Admission Defense, voice and protocol-based VLAN, Internet Group Management Protocol snooping, and Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Quality of Service (QoS)

• Broadcast control: allows limitation of broadcast traffic rate to cut down on unwanted network broadcast traffic

Management

• Friendly port names: allow assignment of descriptive names to ports

Connectivity

• Auto-MDIX: automatically adjusts for straight-through or crossover cables on all 10/100 and 10/100/1000 ports

Performance

• Hardware-based wire-speed access control lists (ACLs): feature-rich ACL implementation (TCAM based) helps ensure high levels of security and ease of administration without impacting network performance

Resiliency and high availability

• Separate data and control paths: increases security and performance

Layer 2 switching

• 8K MAC addresses: provide access to many Layer 2 devices

Layer 3 services

• Address Resolution Protocol (ARP): determines the MAC address of another IP host in the same subnet

HP 3100-24 EI Switch

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ansel 4252 suitable for small office or home office network expansions? +
The Ansel 4252 is an ideal choice for SOHO environments requiring a straightforward plug-and-play solution. As an unmanaged switch, it simplifies network expansion by instantly connecting multiple devices without the need for complex configuration, making it perfect for connecting printers, PCs, and smart devices in smaller professional or residential workspaces.
Does the Ansel 4252 require any software installation or configuration? +
No configuration is required for this device. The Ansel 4252 is designed as a pure unmanaged switch, meaning it automatically detects connected hardware and manages data traffic flows through hardware-level auto-negotiation. Simply connect your Ethernet cables, and the device begins operating immediately, providing a seamless connectivity experience right out of the box.
How does the compact design of the Ansel 4252 benefit space-constrained deployments? +
The switch features a sleek, low-profile black chassis that fits easily onto crowded desks, shelves, or wall-mount installations. Its compact footprint ensures you can integrate high-speed networking into tight spaces without sacrificing aesthetics or performance, which is a major advantage for modern office environments where equipment real estate is at a premium.
What type of cabling is supported by the Ansel 4252 network switch? +
The Ansel 4252 is compatible with standard copper-based Ethernet cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a standards. By using these common industry-standard cables, the switch ensures reliable data transmission and full compatibility with existing network infrastructure, allowing you to easily scale your local network bandwidth without replacing your current cabling systems.
Does the Ansel 4252 provide reliable power efficiency during daily operation? +
The switch is engineered for high reliability with low energy consumption. By utilizing unmanaged architecture, it minimizes internal processing overhead, which in turn reduces power draw. This efficiency is critical for long-term deployments, as it maintains stable, cool operation while keeping your total energy usage down, even during periods of heavy data traffic.
Can the Ansel 4252 be used in a home media setup for streaming devices? +
Absolutely. Because the Ansel 4252 handles data packets efficiently, it is well-suited for high-bandwidth home media setups. You can connect your smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming players directly to the switch to ensure a stable, wired connection that avoids the interference and latency often associated with congested wireless networks.
What is the primary indicator that the Ansel 4252 is active and transmitting data? +
The front-facing panel is equipped with integrated LED indicators that provide real-time status updates. These lights clearly display power status, link connectivity, and network activity. By simply glancing at the front of the unit, you can verify that each connected port is successfully transmitting data, allowing for quick troubleshooting if a connection issue arises.
Is the Ansel 4252 compatible with mixed-speed networking environments? +
Yes, the switch supports auto-negotiation, which allows it to seamlessly handle devices running at different speeds. Whether you are connecting older hardware or modern high-speed peripherals, the Ansel 4252 automatically detects the optimal speed for each port, ensuring that every device communicates at its maximum supported capacity without manual intervention.
