Frequently Asked Questions

What primary connectivity standard does the RealWear LTE 4G (JACS) modem utilize? +
This modem is engineered specifically for 4G LTE cellular connectivity, providing robust wireless data transmission for your RealWear head-mounted devices. By leveraging cellular networks, it allows field workers to maintain a reliable, high-speed internet connection in environments where traditional Wi-Fi infrastructure is unavailable or unreliable, ensuring uninterrupted remote collaboration and data access.
Is the RealWear LTE 4G (JACS) modem compatible with all RealWear smart glasses? +
The JACS LTE modem is designed as a peripheral solution optimized for the RealWear hardware ecosystem. It provides the necessary mobile broadband link for supported devices, enabling real-time video streaming, cloud-based data synchronization, and remote expert guidance in remote industrial locations. Verify specific hardware model compatibility with your current device firmware to ensure seamless integration and connectivity.
How does this cellular modem improve performance for field service applications? +
By offloading network traffic to a dedicated LTE connection, the modem minimizes latency and prevents the bandwidth bottlenecks common in congested public or shared Wi-Fi networks. This performance boost is critical for high-definition video calls and large file transfers, ensuring that field personnel experience smooth, responsive interactions with off-site specialists even in remote areas.
What is the typical deployment scenario for the RealWear LTE 4G (JACS) modem? +
This modem is ideal for industrial, oil and gas, and construction environments where remote teams operate outside the reach of enterprise WLAN. It allows technicians to maintain persistent connectivity while moving across large job sites, enabling real-time asset management and documentation without the need for stationary network infrastructure or localized hotspots.
Does the RealWear LTE 4G (JACS) modem require specific carrier activation? +
Yes, this modem requires an active SIM card from a supported cellular service provider to function. Once the SIM is provisioned with a compatible data plan, the device can connect directly to the 4G network. Configuration is typically managed through the standard device interface, allowing for quick deployment across your mobile workforce.
How do I manage settings for the RealWear LTE 4G (JACS) modem? +
Management is integrated directly into the RealWear device OS. Users can toggle cellular data usage, monitor signal strength, and configure network preferences through the system settings menu. This streamlined approach allows administrators to maintain control over connectivity parameters, ensuring that the hardware remains configured according to specific organizational security and data policies.
What are the physical reliability features of the JACS modem for rugged environments? +
This modem is built to withstand the rigors of industrial usage, matching the durability requirements of the RealWear platform. Its compact, resilient design ensures it can handle physical impacts, vibrations, and harsh environmental conditions commonly encountered in field work, ensuring the connection remains stable even when the operator is in motion.
How does this modem affect the battery life of the RealWear smart device? +
Integrating an external cellular modem involves power consumption during data transmission, which may impact overall operational uptime. To maximize efficiency, it is recommended to manage active data sessions and utilize power-saving modes when high-speed connectivity is not strictly required. This helps maintain balanced performance throughout an extended shift in the field.
