The 2802E model has a Smart antenna connector, which is connected directly to the flexible radio. Without a supported external antenna connected to the Smart Antenna connector, the flexible radio can stay only in 2.4 GHz mode. If an external antenna is connected, the flexible radio can be used in the full Flexible Radio Assignment mode, allowing dual 5 GHz and Wireless Security Monitoring modes.

To connect to any supported RP-TNC connector-type external antenna to the Smart antenna connector, use the DART cable connector AIR-CAB002-DART-R=, which is to be ordered separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary performance advantages of the Cisco AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 802.11ac Wave 2 AP? +
The AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 utilizes 4x4 MU-MIMO technology with three spatial streams, significantly increasing throughput and capacity for high-density environments. By supporting 802.11ac Wave 2 standards, this access point enables faster data rates and improved client handling, ensuring robust connectivity for bandwidth-intensive applications and a larger volume of concurrent wireless devices across your enterprise network.
How does the Cisco CleanAir technology on the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 impact network reliability? +
Integrated CleanAir technology provides proactive, high-speed spectrum intelligence to combat performance-degrading radio frequency interference. By identifying and automatically mitigating interference from non-Wi-Fi sources, this feature ensures superior network reliability and consistent signal quality, which is critical for maintaining stable connections in complex indoor office or industrial RF environments.
Can I use my own antennas with the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9? +
Yes, the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 is designed with external antenna connectors, offering maximum deployment flexibility. This model allows you to select and attach specific high-gain, directional, or patch antennas to optimize coverage patterns, making it an ideal choice for challenging indoor scenarios like high ceilings, narrow hallways, or areas requiring targeted wireless signal propagation.
What is the significance of the 'E' regulatory domain for the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9? +
The 'E' regulatory domain indicates that this specific unit is configured for deployment within the European Union and other regions adhering to ETSI standards. It ensures that the access point operates strictly within local frequency and power regulations. When purchasing, verify that the 'E' domain aligns with your country’s specific wireless compliance laws to ensure legal operation.
How do the dual Gigabit Ethernet ports benefit the deployment of this access point? +
The inclusion of two Gigabit Ethernet ports provides enhanced connectivity and link redundancy. These ports support link aggregation to increase total backhaul bandwidth, which is essential for handling the high traffic loads characteristic of 802.11ac Wave 2 performance. This physical interface configuration ensures that the wired infrastructure does not become a bottleneck for your wireless network.
Is the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 suitable for high-density office environments? +
Absolutely. With its 4x4:3 MU-MIMO configuration and high-performance radio architecture, this model is purpose-built for high-density indoor spaces. It efficiently manages a large number of client devices simultaneously, preventing connection bottlenecks and maintaining high aggregate throughput, making it a reliable workhorse for modern offices, conference centers, or crowded public indoor venues.
What management methods are available for the Cisco AIR-AP2802E-E-K9? +
This access point is designed for seamless integration with Cisco’s robust management solutions. It can be managed via Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) for centralized control or deployed in Mobility Express mode for smaller installations. These management options allow for simplified configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting, giving IT administrators full visibility into the health and performance of the wireless network.
What are the power requirements for the AIR-AP2802E-E-K9? +
To achieve full 4x4:3 MU-MIMO functionality and optimal radio performance, this unit typically requires 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE+). While it may operate with limited functionality on standard 802.3af PoE, we strongly recommend using a PoE+ switch or a high-capacity power injector to ensure the device operates at peak performance levels and maintains reliable operation under heavy traffic loads.
