SGE2010P Overview

Centralize your network operations on a powerful core that's capable of handling all your data and more. Formerly Linksys Business Series, now Cisco Small Business Managed Switches, the SGE2010P Ethernet Switch allows you to securely and reliably expand the size of your high-speed gigabit network.

The SGE2010P maximizes network availability by incorporating redundant stacking and power capabilities. To reduce the number of cables needed for connected devices, this managed switch supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 15W of power for up to 24 ports. The integrated security and authorization features prevent unauthorized access to your network's critical information, and included Quality of Service (QoS) functionality bolsters your video and voice communications.

Additional features of the Cisco SGE2010P Ethernet Switch include:

- 48 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, four mini-GBIC slots (shared with four Ethernet ports) for network expansion
- Secure, encrypted management via SSH and SSL, as well as 802.1x and MAC authentication and filtering

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary networking capabilities of the Cisco SGE2010P managed switch? +
The Cisco SGE2010P functions as a high-performance Layer 2+ managed switch featuring 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports. It offers advanced management features, including VLAN support, Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization for voice and video traffic, and robust security protocols. It is designed to provide granular control over your network traffic, ensuring reliable data delivery for bandwidth-intensive enterprise applications.
How does the Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality support connected devices? +
This switch supports IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet, allowing you to deliver electrical power and data connectivity simultaneously over a single Ethernet cable. This simplifies the deployment of PoE-enabled devices such as wireless access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones, eliminating the need for separate power outlets near each device and reducing overall cabling complexity.
Can the Cisco SGE2010P be integrated into a larger stackable network infrastructure? +
Yes, this model is designed with stackability in mind, allowing network administrators to connect multiple units to function as a single logical entity. This configuration simplifies management, increases port density, and enhances network scalability, making it an ideal solution for growing businesses that need to expand their network backbone without adding administrative overhead.
What management interfaces are available for configuring the SGE2010P? +
Administrators can manage the SGE2010P through a user-friendly, web-based graphical interface, which is ideal for quick configuration changes. For more advanced network environments, the switch also supports a Command Line Interface (CLI) via console access, providing the precise control and scripting capabilities required by experienced network engineers for automated tasks and deep diagnostic analysis.
Is the SGE2010P suitable for high-bandwidth server or uplinks connections? +
The switch is equipped with combo mini-GBIC ports, which offer the flexibility to connect using fiber optic cables for high-speed uplink requirements. These ports are essential for connecting the switch to your core network or high-performance servers, ensuring low-latency communication over longer distances compared to standard copper cabling in your enterprise environment.
How does this switch handle security in an enterprise environment? +
The SGE2010P includes essential security features such as Access Control Lists (ACLs) to restrict access to sensitive network segments, and port authentication based on IEEE 802.1X. These mechanisms help secure the network edge, ensuring that only authorized users and devices gain connectivity, which is critical for protecting against unauthorized access and maintaining overall network integrity.
What is the primary benefit of the Layer 2+ switching functionality on this model? +
Layer 2+ capabilities provide the SGE2010P with static routing features that go beyond standard Layer 2 switches. This allows for efficient inter-VLAN routing without the immediate need for a dedicated core router. By offloading this traffic handling to the access layer, you can improve overall network performance and reduce congestion in your distribution layer.
What deployment scenarios are most appropriate for the Cisco SGE2010P? +
This switch is an excellent choice for mid-sized enterprise offices, educational institutions, or environments where centralized power management for end-point devices is required. Its combination of high-density Gigabit ports, PoE power distribution, and manageable routing features makes it a versatile foundation for modern work environments requiring consistent uptime and centralized control over diverse network assets.
