3C16472-CH Overview

Powerful, Easy-to-Use, and Economical Switching for Small BusinessesThe 3Com® Baseline Switch 2126-G is an unmanaged, fixed configuration Layer 2 Switch with 24 10/100 ports and two copper 10/100/1000 uplinks, designed for small to midsize offices. This rack mountable, business-class switch can be installed in a wiring closet or as a free-standing unit.

The switch comes preconfigured for fast, easy installation using economical copper wiring. Auto-negotiation adjusts the port speed to match the communicating device. To simplify cable connections, all 26 ports come with automatic detection of the Ethernet cable type (MDI/MDIX).

Like all 3Com Baseline products, this switch provides powerful practicality in a sturdy package designed for reliability, long life, and low total cost of ownership.

- Switch works right out of the box—no configuration or management software necessary.
- Nonblocking performance means improved access to network resources
- 24 10/100 ports with auto-negotiation automatically determines the correct port speed.
- Two, copper autosensing 10/100/1000 ports provide a high speed uplink path.
- Automatic MDI/MDIX on all ports simplifies setup by enabling direct connection to another device using straight-through or crossover cables.
- Sturdy design and build quality ensure reliable operation and long life.
- Can be rack-mounted or stacked to maximize space; standard 1 RU form factor simplifies space planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary port configurations available on the 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G? +
The 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G features 24 standard 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet ports. Additionally, it includes two dual-personality Gigabit SFP ports, which provide flexible fiber or copper uplink connectivity options to accommodate various network topologies and long-distance cabling requirements within your enterprise environment.
Is the 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G suitable for high-bandwidth office environments? +
Yes, this switch is designed to handle demanding office traffic. With its non-blocking, wire-speed performance across all 26 ports, it effectively eliminates bottlenecks. It is an excellent choice for small to medium-sized businesses needing consistent, high-speed Gigabit throughput for workstations, printers, and file servers without the complexity of managed networking hardware.
Does the 3Com 2126-G require any software configuration before deployment? +
The Baseline Switch 2126-G is a true unmanaged Layer 2 device, meaning it operates on a plug-and-play basis. There is no command-line interface or web-based management software to configure. Once you connect your Ethernet cables and power, the switch automatically handles auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX, simplifying immediate installation for rapid network expansion.
How does the 3Com 2126-G handle traffic prioritization and flow control? +
This switch supports IEEE 802.1p traffic prioritization, which helps ensure time-sensitive data is processed efficiently. It also features flow control for full-duplex operation, which minimizes packet loss during periods of high network congestion. These built-in features maintain stable data delivery across your local area network without requiring manual administrative tuning.
Can I mount the 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G in a standard server rack? +
Absolutely. The 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G is designed with a rack-mountable form factor. It comes standard with the necessary hardware to fit into a 19-inch server rack, allowing for professional integration into your existing networking infrastructure alongside other rack-mounted devices for a clean, organized equipment room setup.
What is the typical use case for the 3Com 2126-G in an enterprise network? +
This switch is ideal for edge connectivity in larger networks or as the primary core switch for smaller branch offices. It excels in environments where simple, reliable Gigabit connectivity is required for daily business applications and where the administrative overhead of managing Layer 3 switches or VLANs is not necessary.
How does the 3Com 2126-G contribute to energy efficiency in the workplace? +
The 2126-G utilizes the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard where applicable, which helps reduce power consumption during periods of low data activity. By optimizing power usage based on link status and traffic volume, it assists in lowering operational costs and thermal output compared to older, legacy unmanaged switch hardware.
Are the SFP ports on the 3Com Baseline Switch 2126-G compatible with existing fiber modules? +
The dual-personality ports on the 2126-G are designed to accept standard SFP transceivers, allowing for easy integration into existing fiber-optic infrastructures. These ports offer the flexibility to connect to long-range network segments or high-speed uplinks while maintaining standard copper connectivity across the remaining ports, providing versatile options for your specific deployment needs.
